WE’RE IN!

For the second time in our short history, Black Rosie Media has been accredited for the Winter Olympics!

In 2022, Black Rosie Media was still a concept. The fabulous Jo Dabney remixed our original logo ahead of the Beijing Games, and we partnered with the American Legacy Network to tell the stories of Black Athletes at the Winter Games.

This summer, we covered our first Olympics as an official media outlet and launched this newsletter, the Gold Medal Dispatch, as an experiment. We also got creative by repurposing audio with Olympic and WNBA athletes on our YouTube Channel.

Now that we are less than 365 days away from the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milano-Corlina, we will release the Gold Medal Dispatch weekly. As you will see below in the Olympic News section, there is still a lot up in the air ahead of the 2026 Games in Italy.

Either way, we here at Black Rosie Media will have you covered!

4 NATIONS FACE-OFF AN OLYMPIC PREVIEW?

NHL 4 Nations Face-Off logo

The NHL will repurpose its 2025 All-Star Break to host a “best on best” 4 Nations Faceoff. Active NHLers will be divided into four teams based on birthplace and compete in a

The games will be divided between Montreal and Boston from February 12-20.

Tournament Format

Unlike a proper International tournament, which would follow IIHF rules, all seven games will be regulated by NHL rules. The only exception is overtime, which will be 10 minutes instead of five for round-robin games. Woof!

Each federation - United States, Finland, Canada, Sweden – will play three total round-robin games. The points system works as follows:

  • three points for a win in regulation

  • two points for a win in overtime/shootout

  • one point for a loss in overtime/shootout

  • and zero points for a loss in regulation.

The two teams with the best preliminary round record will advance to a one-game final featuring the Stanley Cup Playoffs overtime format.

So yes, this is very much an NHL product, and it’s unclear how closely these rosters will indicate what we will see come the Winter Olympic Tournament next year. However, it is a new twist to an All-Star format that has likely lived past its prime.

The NHL announced they will add a men’s sled hockey event to the 4 Nations Slate this week.

The Reeve Hockey Classic will feature men’s para players from the United States and Canada and will take place on Wednesday, February 19 at Kasabuski Rink in Saugus, MA.

The fifth and final game of the 2024-25 Rivalry Series between USA Hockey and Hockey Canada will occur Saturday in women's hockey. The winner of Game 5 will take the series and have bragging rights ahead of the 2025 IIHF Women’s World Championship.
